JVVDESIGN collects as little personal information as possible. This page says what is collected, why, who sees it, and how long it is kept.

I am Jan Willem, the designer and developer behind JVVDESIGN, doing product, system & experience design from the Netherlands. I decide what happens with personal information on this website.
Questions about privacy? Email [email protected].
Only what you give me, plus a little technical data needed to deliver the site:
To reply to your enquiry, to remember your preferences, and to keep the site running and safe.
Winston, the assistant on the contact section, reads your message so he can understand the question and draft an answer. This version of Winston drafts his replies using the Google Gemini API through Google AI Studio. Your enquiry is stored as a thread he can pick up from, and a clean copy reaches my inbox so I can take over personally at any moment.
I do not sell personal information. I do not track you across websites. I do not profile you or make automated decisions about you.
Under the GDPR I rely on: your consent for functional storage and anything optional, my agreement with you when you ask for a quote, and legitimate interest for running the site securely.
Nobody for advertising. Processing happens in three places, each for a defined purpose: on my own hardware at home, where Winston runs as a self-hosted assistant; at Hetzner, which hosts this website and my server; and at Google, where the message text is sent to the Google Gemini API through Google AI Studio so Winston can phrase his answers. Google processes that text under its API terms to return the reply; it is not used to build advertising profiles about you.
The finished thread lives on my server and lands in my inbox ([email protected]). Requests to the site and to Winston's endpoint are routed through Cloudflare, which sees your IP address and request basics to deliver and protect the traffic. Fonts come from Google. That is the full list.
Hosting and mail stay inside the EU: the website and my server run at Hetzner, in EU data centres. Three US-based services touch limited data, each under their own terms: Cloudflare routes requests through its global network (with EU data centers) and sees your IP address and request basics to deliver and protect the traffic, Google Fonts sends your IP address to Google when it loads fonts, and drafting a Winston reply sends your message text to the Google Gemini API through Google AI Studio, where it is processed on Google's servers.
Enquiry emails are kept as long as it takes to follow up on your question, then removed. Winston's enquiry thread is kept until the conversation is answered and closed, then it is treated like any enquiry: retained only as long as the follow-up needs and deleted when you ask. You can ask me to delete yours at any time.
Data in your browser expires on its own: the cookie choice after 180 days and, if you opted in, the theme cookie after 365 days.
You can ask to see, correct, or delete your information. You can object to processing, ask for a copy of your data, and withdraw consent at any time.
An email to [email protected] is enough. I respond within one month and never charge for this. You can also contact the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
This site runs over HTTPS. The chat and mail endpoints are encrypted. Nothing sensitive like passwords or payment details is stored in your browser.
This site is not meant for children under 16. If a child sent an enquiry, a parent or guardian can ask me to remove it.
If anything changes, this page is updated first. The date at the top shows the current version.
